Norwegian Cruise Line - Dry Dock

The Norwegian Cruise Line's Dry Dock Schedule includes all current Norwegian ships, with details on upcoming scheduled dry docks as well as those recently completed. Cruise lines typically plan routine dry docks up to two years in advance to minimize the need to cancel or modify itineraries after bookings open. However, schedule changes are not uncommon. Unplanned events, such as significant mechanical issues, can require adjustments to the schedule, often creating a cascading effect, resulting in itinerary changes or even cancellations for two or more ships.

While sailing on a freshly refurbished ship straight out of dry dock can be a wonderful experience, a last-minute cruise cancellation due to an extended dry dock period can be deeply disappointing. We recommend keeping this possibility in mind when planning your cruise.

Passenger-area work included refreshed carpeting, wallpaper, tiles, painting and flooring in selected areas, while hundreds of staterooms received cosmetic improvements including refreshed furnishings and finishes and bathroom recoating. Behind-the-scenes work included replacement of insulation materials in cold rooms, galleys and accommodation areas. The ship returned to service following the maintenance and refurbishment period.

The project also introduced Los Lobos Cantina, O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill and Sugarcane Mojito Bar, transformed Spinnaker Lounge into Bliss Lounge, and included extensive technical maintenance.

Norwegian Encore underwent an extensive two-week dry dock from November 18 through December 2, 2024. The project introduced Spice H2O, an adults-only outdoor lounge replacing the former laser-tag arena, with multiple hot tubs, large day beds surrounded by cooling pools and a new bar. Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki were expanded, while Ocean Blue was converted to the Mediterranean seafood restaurant Palomar.

The two Haven Premier Owner's Suites were expanded from two to three bedrooms and now include three-and-a-half bathrooms, renovated living rooms and master bedrooms, new outdoor balcony furnishings and separate dining rooms. A portion of the Observation Lounge was converted into 24 new balcony staterooms and two Club Balcony staterooms.

Eight new balcony and oceanview staterooms were also added before the ship returned to service.

Norwegian Escape is scheduled for a significant dry dock in October 2026 during a break in service between its October 12 arrival in Barcelona and its October 28 transatlantic departure. In addition to routine technical maintenance and refurbishment work, the project is expected to include several substantial changes to the ship's dining and public spaces.

On Deck 8, Moderno Churrascaria is expected to be removed and its space incorporated into a substantially larger Cagney's Steakhouse. Bayamo by Ocean Blue is also expected to be replaced by Palomar, Norwegian Cruise Line's Mediterranean-inspired seafood specialty restaurant, with current reports indicating the new venue may also incorporate space occupied by the neighboring Pincho Tapas Bar.

The casino is expected to receive an enclosed smoking section, separating smoking gaming from the primary casino space. Additional renewal of furnishings, finishes and other hotel areas may take place during the dry dock, although Norwegian Cruise Line has not yet published a comprehensive refurbishment plan. Reports of possible changes to Vibe Beach Club and The Haven have not been sufficiently confirmed and should be considered speculative pending additional information.

A Vibe Beach Club was installed on Deck 14, providing an adults-only outdoor retreat with 54 premium lounge chairs, seven private cabanas and an additional hot tub. A licensed Starbucks was also added in the ship's atrium, together with minor updates to accommodations and public areas.

A new Thermal Suite was created in Mandara Spa & Salon, while Vibe Beach Club was expanded into the former laser-tag area with additional outdoor space and private cabanas.

Twenty-four new balcony staterooms were created from part of the Observation Lounge. The ship's two Haven Premier Owner's Suites were redesigned as three-bedroom accommodations with three-and-a-half bathrooms, renovated living rooms and master bedrooms, new balcony furnishings and separate dining rooms overlooking The Haven Horizon Lounge. Norwegian Joy resumed passenger service on February 13, 2024.
