The Breakaway class cruise ships were built between 2013 and 2018 for Norwegian Cruise Line, Aroya Cruises, and Dream Cruises. They introduced the first Waterfront outdoor promenade on a large cruise ship along with a multi-level Aqua Park. The ships feature a go-kart track, laser tag arena, and the 10-story Ultimate Abyss dry slide. The class includes a distinctive split-superstructure design that maximizes open deck space and was the first to include a rock-climbing wall and zip line at sea.

Norwegian Getaway completed an extensive bow-to-stern refurbishment at Damen Shiprepair Brest as part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Edge program. The project added Syd Norman’s Pour House and a full-service Starbucks, transformed the former library into Perspectives Photo Studio, doubled the size of Vibe Beach Club, added a water feature to Spice H2O, refreshed accommodations and public spaces, upgraded The Haven courtyard, and incorporated approximately 800 pieces of artwork throughout the ship.
