Professional divers cleaned marine growth from Viking Orion's underwater hull while the vessel was anchored in international waters off South Australia, near Victor Harbor and Kangaroo Island. Australian authorities had required the cleaning before allowing the ship to enter subsequent ports because of biosecurity concerns.

The intervention followed denied or cancelled calls in New Zealand, Tasmania and South Australia during the ship's December 2022-January 2023 holiday voyage. Viking described the work as removal of a limited amount of standard marine growth. The ship left the cleaning anchorage on January 1 and reached Melbourne on January 2, 2023.
