The Grand class cruise ships were built between 1998 and 2004 for Princess Cruises and introduced the first Movies Under the Stars outdoor theater on a cruise ship. They feature extensive outdoor deck space with multiple pools and elegant public areas. The ships include a large theater and multiple specialty restaurants with a distinctive funnel design. The class was the first Princess vessels to include a dedicated children's facility spanning three decks.

Grand Princess completed a scheduled dry dock at Vigor Shipyard in Portland, Oregon, from April 18 through May 3, 2025. The project combined routine maintenance, class inspections and passenger-area refresh work with upgrades throughout guest and operational spaces. Documented work included painting of guest elevators, replacement of bridge solar glides, marble replacement in public bathrooms, new galley tiles, replacement of pool-deck bulkheads, recoating of jacuzzis and retiling of spa treatment-room showers. Crew areas were also refreshed with replacement tables in the crew mess.

The cantilevered Skywalkers Nightclub structure was removed from the stern, reducing weight and altering the ship's exterior profile. New and reworked passenger venues included Crown Grill, a pizzeria, Leaves tea lounge and The One5 nightclub. Seven window suites were added; and the casino, boutiques, art gallery, Horizon Court, Lotus Spa and wedding chapel were refurbished.
