The Jewel class cruise ships were built between 2005 and 2008 for Norwegian Cruise Line and introduced the first rock-climbing wall at sea along with a full-size basketball court. They feature the popular Garden Café buffet and multiple specialty restaurants with large open deck spaces. The ships were designed with a distinctive hull form and extensive outdoor areas for activities. The class established the freestyle cruising style with flexible dining schedules.

Norwegian Gem completed a scheduled dry dock at Chantier Naval de Marseille from April 25 through May 11, 2026. The approximately two-and-a-half-week project combined routine technical maintenance, class work and general refurbishment with the introduction of Vibe Beach Club on Deck 14. The adults-only outdoor venue includes premium lounge chairs, private cabanas and an additional hot tub. The ship returned to service on May 11 for its summer season in Europe.

Norwegian Gem completed a scheduled dry dock and extensive refurbishment at Grand Bahama Shipyard. The project refreshed staterooms and public spaces with new carpeting, furniture and décor, renovated the Haven Courtyard, upgraded restaurants and bars, and converted the former Star Bar into O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. Technical maintenance, hull work and other routine shipyard work were also completed.
