Carnival Liberty completed its previously scheduled dry dock in December 2016 before repositioning to Port Canaveral. The shipyard period followed a series of November voyages that Carnival had modified because of a technical issue affecting the ship's maximum cruising speed. The dry dock included scheduled maintenance and hotel-area work before Carnival Liberty began its new Port Canaveral deployment in mid-December.

Carnival Liberty underwent a major refurbishment in October 2011 as the first Carnival ship to receive several elements of the cruise line's Fun Ship 2.0 enhancement program. The project introduced Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, RedFrog Rum Bar, BlueIguana Tequila Bar, Alchemy Bar, EA SPORTS Bar and additional dining and beverage concepts. Other improvements included Serenity adults-only retreat and broader passenger-area refurbishment before the ship returned to service.
