Carnival Glory underwent a scheduled ten-day dry dock and maintenance project at Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia, beginning January 9, 2006. The approximately $1.2 million contract covered maintenance of the vessel's hull structure, inspections of underwater hull equipment and underwater hull painting. Northrop Grumman's Newport News division served as the prime contractor, assigning approximately 40 shipyard employees to the project. The work focused on maintaining the ship's underwater structure and equipment rather than introducing new passenger amenities or major interior modifications. The project was undertaken while Carnival Glory was operating as a 110,000-gross-ton cruise ship with accommodation for approximately 2,974 passengers.
