The Sovereign class cruise ships were built in 1988 for Royal Caribbean International and later operated by Pullmantur Cruises. They were one of the first modern mega-ships with extensive entertainment and a large atrium. The ships feature a distinctive whale-tail funnel and were designed for high-energy cruising. The class set the standard for modern cruise ship design in the late 1980s.
