The Crown class cruise ships represent the second generation of the Grand Class for Princess Cruises with Crown Princess as the lead ship. They introduced several layout refinements including improved passenger flow in public areas and larger specialty dining venues compared to the original Grand Class ships. The ships feature a more dramatic atrium design and enhanced outdoor spaces with better integration of the Movies Under the Stars theater. The class was designed to offer a refined balance of traditional Princess elegance and modern cruising features.

Crown Princess entered dry dock at Seatrium Tuas Boulevard in Singapore on November 29, 2025, with shipyard work continuing through December 18 before the ship returned to guest service on December 19. The approximately three-week project combined routine maintenance, technical work, class inspections and hotel-area refurbishment with significant guest-facing enhancements. Princess added O'Malley's Irish Pub, redesigned Gatsby's Casino and introduced a new EFFY Lounge, along with broader refurbishment throughout the ship.

Crown Princess underwent an extensive dry-dock refurbishment at Grand Bahama Shipyard from March 24 through April 3, 2018. Four top-deck dining and beverage venues were refreshed and renamed Salty Dog Grill, Slice, Coffee & Cones and The Mix. Sabatini's became Sabatini's Trattoria, the outdoor theater received a larger LED screen, Horizon Court was reupholstered and all staterooms received Princess Luxury Beds. Camp Discovery was introduced, the Lotus Spa and fitness facilities were renovated, the casino and retail areas were refreshed, and OceanMedallion infrastructure was installed.
