The Caribbean class cruise ships were developed as a one-off modification of the Grand Class specifically for Princess Cruises. Caribbean Princess introduced an extra deck of passenger cabins called the Riviera deck, significantly increasing capacity while keeping the core Grand Class layout. The ship features a unique family-focused pool deck with a dedicated splash pool and water play area that distinguishes it from other Grand Class sisters. The class was optimized for longer Caribbean itineraries with enhanced children's facilities and family-oriented public spaces.

Caribbean Princess underwent a dry-dock refurbishment in Freeport in June 2019. The principal addition was The Reef Family Splash Zone, Princess' first family water-play area of its kind. The Deck 17 complex incorporated a splash pool, water sprays and cannons, an interactive whale-themed feature, shaded family seating, an outdoor play area connected with Camp Discovery and a family game zone.

Camp Discovery youth and teen facilities were added, the Movies Under the Stars screen was upgraded, and 87 pairs of connecting staterooms were created for families. Horizon Court was transformed into World Fresh Marketplace, while the former Café Caribe area was reworked to introduce Planks BBQ and Steamers Seafood.

Additional public areas and entertainment facilities were renovated during the project.
