Cunard - Dry Dock

The Cunard's Dry Dock Schedule includes all current Cunard ships, with details on upcoming scheduled dry docks as well as those recently completed. Cruise lines typically plan routine dry docks up to two years in advance to minimize the need to cancel or modify itineraries after bookings open. However, schedule changes are not uncommon. Unplanned events, such as significant mechanical issues, can require adjustments to the schedule, often creating a cascading effect, resulting in itinerary changes or even cancellations for two or more ships.

While sailing on a freshly refurbished ship straight out of dry dock can be a wonderful experience, a last-minute cruise cancellation due to an extended dry dock period can be deeply disappointing. We recommend keeping this possibility in mind when planning your cruise.

Queen Elizabeth completed a transformative refurbishment at Seatrium's Admiralty Yard in Singapore ahead of her inaugural Alaska season from Seattle and first full Caribbean season based in Miami.

Cunard revitalized the Commodore Club, Queens Room, Garden Lounge and The Pavilion. The Queens Room received a new dance floor, furniture and soft furnishings, with its design drawing upon the Royal Palace tradition of planting mulberry trees. Outdoor decks were upgraded with additional shade on the aft deck for warm-weather cruising.

The Grills accommodation and associated guest areas received new furnishings and design details. The Grills Terrace gained new furniture, including double sunbeds. The Pavilion Wellness Café, first introduced aboard Queen Anne, was added with a menu emphasizing plant-based dishes alongside sustainably sourced meat, fish and dairy. Cunard also introduced Harper's Bazaar Wellness at Sea packages and regional food and beverage offerings developed for the ship's Alaska and Caribbean deployments.

Queen Elizabeth completed a scheduled dry dock at Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore focused on regular maintenance and technical renewal. Work included classification requirements, hotel upkeep, technical overhauls, steel work, minor machinery updates and a thorough hull cleaning. The maintenance period followed biofouling problems that had disrupted the ship's New Zealand itineraries earlier in 2023 and prepared Queen Elizabeth for her subsequent Asian, Japanese and Alaska programs

Queen Elizabeth completed a major refurbishment and technical overhaul at Damen Shiprepair Brest. The project introduced Cunard's new Mareel Wellness & Beauty spa, refreshed public spaces, bars and lounges, and provided new carpeting and soft furnishings throughout Grill Suites and Britannia staterooms. The Royal Court Theatre received a complete technical overhaul, the Royal Arcade was enhanced, and outdoor deck areas received new furniture and a redesigned Sun Deck layout. Technical work included maintenance of the ship's stabilizers, ABB Azipods, bow thrusters and water intakes, installation of twin exhaust-gas cleaning systems, lifeboat and tender maintenance, and cleaning and repainting of the hull and topsides.

Queen Mary 2 is scheduled for a substantial 40-day extended refurbishment at Damen Shiprepair Brest from March 31 through May 9, 2027. Cunard describes the project as a significant investment intended to renew the liner while preserving her Art Deco identity and transatlantic character.

Thirty-one new accommodations will be added: 16 Princess Grill Suites and 15 Britannia staterooms. Every existing Grill Suite will receive new interiors, furnishings and finishes, along with newly designed bathrooms featuring spa-inspired elements. The Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants will also be refreshed.

Additional outdoor deck space will be created for relaxation and sea views, while paddle tennis, pickleball and traditional deck games will remain available. Queen Mary 2's kennels will be redesigned and expanded, with greater capacity, a refurbished owners' lounge and a larger outdoor walking area.

Mareel Wellness & Beauty will be transformed, and a new collection of luxury retail stores will be introduced. Illuminations, the ship's planetarium, will receive a major digital upgrade. Other guest areas, cultural facilities and entertainment spaces will be carefully refreshed under a design vision led by original Queen Mary 2 designer Chris Finch.

Queen Mary 2 completed a three-week maintenance and refurbishment project at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam. The ship's underwater hull was stripped to bare metal and given a new low-friction antifouling coating, while the hull above the waterline, superstructure and funnels received extensive repairs and repainting. All five swimming pools were refurbished, including replacement of tiles and teak and six whirlpool hot tubs, while numerous staterooms, crew spaces and other interior areas were renewed. Technical maintenance, class work and inspections were also carried out during the project, which involved thousands of workers and specialist contractors.

Queen Mary 2 underwent an extensive 25-day, approximately $132 million Remastering at Blohm+Voss in Hamburg from May 27 through June 21, 2016. The major refurbishment added 30 Britannia Club balcony staterooms and 15 single staterooms, expanded the ship's kennels and substantially redesigned dining and public spaces. The Britannia Club Restaurant was expanded, Kings Court was extensively reorganized and refreshed, and the former Winter Garden was transformed into the Carinthia Lounge. Additional work included refurbishment of the Grand Lobby and spa areas along with extensive updates to accommodations and other passenger spaces throughout the ship.

Queen Victoria is scheduled to enter dry dock at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam for an extensive three-week transformation. She is expected to leave the refit on November 5 and return to passenger service on November 7, 2026.

The project will refresh the Grand Lobby and reimagine the Queens Room. The Queens Room's new decorative treatment is inspired by Queen Victoria's orange-blossom brooch and wedding bouquet. Cunard will also refresh Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites with new furnishings and design detailing, while updating the associated Grill restaurants, lounge and terrace spaces.

Eight additional Britannia staterooms will be introduced. Three will belong to a new Britannia Deluxe Oceanview category featuring floor-to-ceiling windows. The Pavilion Wellness Café will also be added, making Queen Victoria the third Cunard ship to receive the venue. It will serve breakfast, lunch and daytime light dining, emphasizing plant-based dishes alongside sustainably sourced meat, fish and dairy.

Queen Victoria completed a scheduled dry dock at Harland & Wolff in Belfast ahead of her return to passenger service following the COVID-19 shutdown. The project consisted primarily of standard dry-docking work, including scheduled inspection, maintenance and technical servicing required before the ship resumed operations. The visit marked Queen Victoria's first dry docking in Belfast and made her the largest cruise ship to have entered a UK dry dock at the time.

Queen Victoria underwent an approximately $40 million major refurbishment at Fincantieri Palermo from May 5 through June 4, 2017. The project added 43 Britannia Club staterooms and introduced a dedicated Britannia Club Restaurant, while the ship's Grand Suites and Penthouse Suites were substantially redesigned. Every stateroom received refurbishment work, with large flat-screen televisions and tea and coffee facilities added to accommodations. Passenger-area improvements also included refurbishment of the Winter Garden and enhancements to the Lido Sun Deck, along with broader hotel and public-space updates throughout the ship.

Hotel areas and passenger spaces also received general maintenance and cosmetic attention before the ship returned to service.
