Oh I’ve definitely been there, sitting down and realizing you just walked into someone else’s inside jokes. But I’ve also had nights where total strangers ended up being the highlight of the trip, so it really is a roll of the dice.

I can totally relate to this because the social side of cruising can be unpredictable — sometimes you find a great group of people and have unforgettable conversations, but other times you feel like an outsider trying to join in. I’ve had a similar experience at a shared dinner table. Everyone was already deep into a conversation about a previous cruise, and I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about

The funny thing is that after a few minutes someone asked where I was from and suddenly the conversation opened up. Sometimes you just need that one person to break the ice. I’ve actually had some of my best cruise conversations with complete strangers at dinner.
