What do the various colors represent regarding the ships shown on the ship tracker maps? I've figured out that a diamond is a ship in port, and an "arrow" is a ship under way, but what do the colors mean?

the colors are for different TYPES of ships..... tanker, passenger, tug, cargo, etc. you can go to http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ you will see a menu to the left...if you point at "filter" it will bring up a legend. You can also track a vessels previous track on this webpage......search for ships etc. I use this service to keep up with a fleet.
