Norwegian Cruise Line's Crispy Fried Calamari with Marinara Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1 lb fresh calamari (tubes and tentacles), cleaned and cut into rings
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornmeal
- 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Fresh lemon wedges
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions:
- Soak calamari in buttermilk for 10–15 minutes (this helps tenderize and helps coating stick).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, Old Bay, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Drain calamari from buttermilk, then toss in the seasoned flour mixture until well coated. Shake off excess.
- Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd.
- Drain on paper towels. Season with a little extra salt immediately after frying.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges and warm marinara sauce.
