Ingredients:

  • 6 cups day-old bread cubes (French bread or brioche works best)
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Caramel sauce or vanilla sauce for serving

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Place bread cubes in the dish. Pour mashed bananas over the bread.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, both sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Pour custard mixture over the bread. Gently press down so all bread is soaked. Let sit 15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with nuts if using.
  • Bake for 45–55 minutes until the top is golden and the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
  • Serve warm with caramel sauce or vanilla sauce.
